With starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson out due to suspension, the LSU Tigers used a merciless defense to thwart the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 19-6 Thursday night at Davis Wade Stadium.

LSU's national title hopes got brighter than ever as the Tigers defense easily demolished SEC's most dominant rushing team.

No. 25 ranked Mississippi State entered averaging 321 rushing yards a game, but the No. 3 Tigers curtailed it to just 52 yards Thursday.

Filling in for a suspended Jordan Jefferson, Jarrett Lee went 21-for-27 for 213 yards with one touchdown pass.

Tigers kicker Drew Alleman went four-for-four on field goal attempts, accounting for more than half of LSU's offense. Rueben Randle was the best performer among LSU's receiving corps, nabbing six receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown.

LSU Tigers junior cornerback Morris Claiborne snared two interceptions, while senior Ron Brooks intercepted one pass.

It was a tough night for Mississippi State starting quarterback Chris Relf, who went 11-for-17 for 96 yards with one interception. His substitute Tyler Russell also faltered, going 4-for-8 for 45 yards and one touchdown.

After winning their first three games in dominant fashions, the No.3 Tigers head to Morgantown to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers next week.
