Scott Paterno, son of legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, is reporting his father has a treatable form of lung cancer.

JoePa, now the former Nittany Lions coach, is embroiled in the alleged sex abuse case involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.

"As everyone can appreciate, this is a deeply personal matter for my parents, and we simply ask that his privacy be respected as he proceeds with treatment," Scott Paterno said in a brief statement. "Last weekend my father was diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness. He is currently undergoing treatment and his doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery."

The Citizens Voice of Wilkes-Barre reported that Paterno was spotted at Mount Nittany Medical Center Wednesday.

Scott Paterno said his dad has a bronchial illness.
