The Kansas City Royals may have found a perfect setup man after inking Jonathan Broxton to a one-year, $4 million deal, multiple sources reported Tuesday.

Broxton, who is coming off a shoulder surgery in September, must pass a physical exam for the contract to take effect.

According to a reliable league source, the deal entitles Braxton to pocket $4 million and up to $1 million in incentives next season.

Broxton, who appeared in two All-Star games as a closer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will assume the setup role along with Greg Holland for closer Joakim Soria next season.

After amassing most of his 503 strikeouts through his first five years in the big leagues, Broxton was hampered with a shoulder injury and collected just seven saves and a lofty ERA of 5.68 last season.

Nevertheless, Royals general manager Dayton Moore is confident Broxton will regain his All-Star form and contribute to the team right away next season.

Broxton's arrival gives the Royals bullpen a veteran presence after rookies mostly took over the late inning job last season.

"We tried to put together the best bullpen that we can so we can match up successfully in the late innings," Moore told MLB.com Tuesday.
