Nyon, Switzerland

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have avoided a showdown in the UEFA Champions League after they were separated in the quarterfinal draw.

Real Madrid will take on Galatasaray while Barcelona will meet Paris Saint-Germain in quarterfinal matches that will be played April 2-3 and April 9-10.

In other quarterfinal draw, Malaga will tackle Borussia Dortmund while Bayern Munich takes on Juventus.

The much-awaited showdown between Real Madrid and Barcelona could happen in the final if they hurdle their respective rivals.

PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who missed the first-leg match due to suspension, will return to face his former team, which defeated AC Milan, 4-2, recently.

Ibrahimovic will be joined by newly acquired David Beckham, the only English player left in the competition.

After beating Arsenal, Bayern Munich will take on Juventus, considered to be the most competitive matchup in the draw.

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho, for his part, is aiming to become the first manager to win the Champions League with three different clubs, having achieved it previously with Porto and Inter Milan.

Real Madrid recently eliminated Manchester United in the first knockout round and emerged from a tough group comprised of Spain, Germany, England and Holland.

"Real have had to do it the hard way so far -- they have beaten a lot of good teams," said Steve McManaman, a former Liverpool and Real midfielder who carried out the draw for UEFA.

Galatasaray's squad includes two former Mourinho favorites -- ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and former Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

The draw for the semifinals will be made in Nyon on April 12 while the championship round will be played at Wembley Stadium on May 25.
