New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady sacrificed his pay for a chance to at least one more title run.

He has agreed to a three-year extension at $27 million, less than half the $20 million-per-season rate the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees received last year.

Brady will receive a signing bonus of $3 million, along with base salaries of $7 million, $8 million and $9 million in 2015-17, respectively.

The below-market deal will allow the team to to save $15 million toward the cap over the next two years.

It will now be easier for New England to retain free agents such as wide receiver Wes Welker, tackle Sebastian Vollmer and cornerback Aqib Talib.

It also allows the team to beef up via free agency, which begins March 12.

New England has seven Super Bowl appearances, but won its last title in 2004.

Tom Brady agreed to the terms of the 3-year extension that ensures he'll retire a New England Patriot.
