Former USC Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley threw in front of NFL scouts.

There was interest in Barkley's progress from the injury since he did not work out in front of scouts at the Senior Bowl in January or throw at the NFL scouting combine in February.

Barkley appeared crisp, completing 55-of-60 attempts during the rehearsed passing display. He said his shoulder "felt fine," and was clearly happy with his 45-minute throwing session attended by 31 of NFL's 32 teams, as well as 150 media members.

"A lot of the proof is in the tape -- that's where they look first," Barkley said. "But today was proof that I can still throw and make those passes down the field."

"He looked great," star receiver and fellow NFL prospect Robert Woods said. "His balls were in great position. The ones he did overthrow were one step off, and that's just timing. His balls were right on the money. & (Velocity) was the same, maybe stronger."

Barkley started with quick 10-yard in-seam and out throws to a four-across array of receivers, showing that he could at least get the ball out of his hand with the same velocity he had before.

But he tended to struggle with the kind of quick and precise timing needed to make deeper sideline throws, especially those he threw outside the pocket on designed rollouts.

While he can clearly sing the ball with optimal arc to any depth, his receivers (including Robert Woods, who drew a lot of applause from those in attendance) had to come back and otherwise adjust on about half of his long passes.

Barkley passed for 3,273 yards and 36 TDs as a senior, becoming the Pac-12 leader for career passing yards (12,327) and touchdowns (116).
