The Cincinnati Bengals officially traded quarterback Carson Palmer to the Oakland Raiders for a couple of future draft picks, multiple sources reported Tuesday.

Palmer finally got his request for a fresh start after the Bengals shipped him to the Raiders in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2012 draft and a conditional second-round pick in 2013.

Palmer, who held out for quite some time after the Bengals denied his trade request, will likely become the Raiders starting quarterback following the injury to Jason Campbell.

"It's been a whirlwind," Palmer told reporters during Tuesday's press conference. "I understand what's expected of me. I know what playing quarterback is about, and it's about winning. I want to come in and contribute and do whatever I can to help this team."

The Raiders badly needed a quarterback after Campbell sustained a season-ending collarbone injury in last week's 24-17 win over the Cleveland Browns.

With Kyle Boller and rookie quarterback Terrelle Pryor still not ready to take Campbell's role, the Raiders took a gamble and nabbed Palmer from the Bengals before the trade deadline.

Palmer's arrival gives the Raiders a quarterback who has a strong arm and athleticism to challenge several defensive schemes.

Last season, Palmer covered 3,970 yards with 26 TD passes and a quarterback rating of 82.4 percent.
