The Kansas City Chiefs found a temporary solution to their quarterback problem after claiming Pro Bowl signal-caller Kyle Orton off waivers.
With starting quarterback Matt Cassel (fractured hand) probably out for the remainder of the season, the Chiefs (4-6) beat out the Dallas Cowboys (6-4) and the Chicago Bears (7-3) to claim Orton off waivers.
Orton, who was waived by the Denver Broncos Tuesday after losing his starting job to Tim Tebow this season, will be bringing his talent to a team that lost three straight games.
With plenty of space under the salary cap, the Chiefs absorbed $2.604 million of Orton's $7.379 million paycheck for 2011.
Orton, who covered at least 3,000 yards each of his two seasons with the Broncos, will have a chance to prove himself against his former team when the Chiefs plays in Denver on January 1.
