Quarterbacks Everett Golson and Tommy Rees threw a touchdown pass each as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish preserved their immaculate record with a 20-13 overtime win over the Stanford Cardinal Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium.

The Irish improved to 6-0, relying heavily on their top-notch defense and clutch TD pass from Rees in overtime to defeat the 17th ranked Cardinals on their home turf in South Bend.

Notre Dame, which only allowed opponents to score 8.7 points per game this season, trailed 10-3 at halftime after a fumble TD return by Chase Thomas and 48-yard field goal by Jordan Williamson.

The Fighting Irish leveled the score at 10-10 after Golson hooked up with Tyler Eifert for a 24-yard TD pass.

Williamson gave the Cardinal a three-point lead, 13-10, with 6:12 minutes remaining but Kyle Brindza converted a 22-yard field goal with 22 seconds left to send the game to overtime.

Kyle Brindza, who replaced Golson in OT after the starting QB got involved in a vicious helmet-to-helmet collision, delivered the game-winning pass after connecting with TJ Jones for a 7-yard TD play.

Stanford nearly scored to tie it in OT, but the Irish held on for a goal-line stand.

The Irish will next take on Brigham Young before playing the No.13 Oklahoma Sooners on October 27.
