Pair Spring Pastels With Sheer Makeup

Some of the prettiest clothes and accessories this spring are in soft pastels. The best complement to these hues? Sheer makeup.

To wear sheer without looking washed out, be sure to:

1. Create flawless skin!

This can be achieved with today's tinted moisturizers. The best of the bunch function as primer, foundation, skin hydrator and sunscreen all in one. After you apply your tinted base, pat concealer on key areas -- such as under the eyes, around the nose and on small dark spots -- that need a little extra coverage. Concealer should be light, creamy, and easy to blend for the most natural look.

2. Add a touch of sheen

To create dimension to your face and counterbalance the sheer tones you will add later. Apply a thin layer of liquid luminizer or a creamy highlighting stick on the brow bone, cheekbones, down the center of your nose, on the inner corners of your eyes and on the Cupid's bow over your top lip.

3. Choose delicate washes of eye shadow

That flatter your skin tone. Try camel, caramel, ginger, milk chocolate, amber, bronze, champagne or taupe shades with just a touch of shimmer and lightweight pigment.

4. Define eyes

With black or brown eyeliner. Finish with two or three coats of mascara.

5. Add a believable flush to your face

By applying a soft liquid or cream blush in the peach, pink-brown or berry families on the apples of you cheeks.

6. Skip the lipstick or lip gloss

Opt for a tinted lip balm instead -- you only want a subtle touch of color on your lips. If you need to correct lip color first, use a bit of foundation as a base.
