Find the Best Bronzer for You

Back in the 1990s, you could only find one or two brands of bronzers that came in light or dark.

Today, in addition to bronzing powders, you're presented with the choice of bronzer / blush duos, creams, gels and sticks. It can be downright confusing!

Here's how to get the best faux bronze -- without ever looking like Snooki's long-lost, overly tanned cousin.

Bronzing Powders

These are still the go-to product for a quick and easy golden glow. With a large, fluffy bronzer brush, "Use a light sweeping motion, starting from the forehead down to the chin and hitting all the focal spots of your face," says Jerrod Blandino, co-founder of Too Faced Cosmetics. "Then add a second swipe to the T-zone." Dust the color on your neck and decolletage so the color is even.

Bronzer/Blush Duos

Some bronzers and blushes are packaged together. It's a genius idea, since it takes the guesswork out of finding two shades that go together. Apply the bronzer as normal, and then add the blush to the apples of the cheeks. This will make your glow look natural and pretty.

Bronzing Lotion

Bronzing lotion, often called illuminators or highlighters, can be mixed into your regular foundation for a subtle shine, or used as a highlighter on your face. Dab it onto your cheekbones and upper lip area for a bronze goddess glow.

Bronzing Stick

A bronzing stick is essentially a cream bronzer that gives you a bit more control than a powder. Apply it with your fingers or with a makeup sponge on your cheeks, forehead, nose and chin -- anywhere the sun naturally hits. Blend with a sponge. A bronzing stick can also be used on your eyes and lips for an all-over faux glow.
