Cesar Tordesillas
Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander is ecstatic about becoming the highest-paid pitcher in baseball after reportedly agreeing to a seven-year $180 million deal to remain with the only team he has worked for.
The pact could have an eighth-year to push it over the $200 million mark.
"I love this city & the fans -- couldn't be more excited to spend my career here! We're going to bring a World Series to Detroit!!!" Verlander tweeted about his return to the team.
Verlander was 24-5 with a 2.40 ERA and 250 strikeouts in 2011, capturing both the MVP and Cy Young honors in a remarkable campaign.
He was 17-8 with a 2.64 ERA last season, finishing behind the Rays' David Price in Cy Young voting.
