The world's first 3D printed car is called the Strati and it was created by Local Motors, a US-based automotive manufacturer, in 2014. The car was printed in just 44 hours using a large 3D printer known as the Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM) machine. The body of the car is made from carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic and it has a top speed of about 40 miles per hour. The Strati only has a few components, as most of the car is printed in one piece. The design is very unique, with exposed mechanics and a futuristic look. Local Motors hopes to produce more 3D printed cars in the future as a way to reduce the time and cost of traditional car manufacturing.
