Check out Italian Police Gets Lamborghini to Fight Crime.

Italian police have taken their new Lamborghini for a test drive around Rome, passing the Italian capital's historic monuments and causing quite a stir on the streets.

The new car is now ready for service, fitted with a siren and painted blue-and-white with the word "POLIZIA" written on the side.

Police officials say the Lamborghini will be used on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway in southern Italy, for emergencies and to transport organs for transplant. There's even a specially-designed cooler compartment for the organs.

But this isn't the first time the Italian police have used racing cars. In the 1960s Italian criminal police were given a black Ferrari to chase bank robbers.

Its driver, Mr Spadafora, became legendary when he drove the Ferrari down the 'Spanish Steps' in Rome during a car chase.

Lamborghini, which is owned by Volkswagen and based near Bologna in northern Italy, donated the new car to the police.

The six-speed, two-door luxury vehicle can go from zero to 95 kilometres per hour (60 miles per hour) in four seconds and has a list price of 165,000 US dollars, with a top speed of 310 km per hour (192 miles per hour).

It look like Italian drivers who use the roads as their own personal racing tracks are about to lose the race.
