French Broadcaster Hacked by Islamic State

French broadcaster TV5Monde is working to regain control over its eleven channels and websites after a cyber attack claimed by the supporters of the Islamic State.

In 2015, French TV network TV5Monde was hijacked by pro-ISIS hackers, who claimed responsibility for the cyberattack.

The hackers were able to take control of the television network, blacking out broadcasts, hacking its websites and Facebook page, and posting documents on TV5Monde’s Facebook page purporting to be the identity cards and CVs of relatives of French soldiers involved in anti-ISIS operations, along with threats against the troops.

The attack was described as an unprecedented attack that severely damaged the network's systems

The incident prompted France’s culture minister to call an urgent meeting of French media groups to assess their vulnerability to hacking

The attack was seen as a potentially new display of the militant group’s cyberattack skills

The incident highlighted the vulnerability of media organizations to cyberattacks and the need for increased cybersecurity measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
