Forward Edin Dzeko found the back of the net twice and Manchester City reached the quarterfinal round of the Carling Cup with a 5-2 victory over the Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium.

Fresh off a 6-1 win against Manchester United last Sunday, Manchester City continued to score lopsided victories this time at the expense of Wolverhampton.

Dzeko, on a tear lately, recorded two goals in to spark Manchester City's high-octane offense.

The Wanderers were in position to pull off a big upset early on after drawing first blood on a goal by Midfielder Nenad Milijas in the 18th minute mark.

However, momentum suddenly switched in the winding minutes of the first half in which Manchester City scored three quick goals within a four-minute span.

Midfielder Adam Johnson started City's onslaught with his score in the 37th minute, before Samir Nasri and Dzeko struck in the 39th and 40th minute mark respectively.

Manchester City sustained its aggressive offensive attack after the break, producing an own goal by Dorus De Vries in the 50th minute and another tally from Dzeko in the 64th minute.

Wanderers Midfielder Jamie O'Hara netted a goal in the 65th minute, but tCity proved too tough to handle.

Manchester City, which holds the best record in the English Premier League at 8-1-0, advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Football League Cup.

In other Carling Cup matches, Luis Suarez scored two goals in the second half to help Liverpool edge Stoke City, 2-1, at Britannia Stadium.

Blackburn Rovers also advanced to the next round by outlasting Newcastle United on a shot by Gael Givet in the extended time.

Meanwhile, Chelsea staved off elimination as Daniel Sturridge nailed a goal in extended time to beat Everton, 2-1.
