Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge buried two goals each as Liverpool recorded its biggest Premier League road victory this season, blanking Newcastle United, 6-0, Saturday at St. James Park.

Despite the absence of suspended striker Luis Suarez, Newcastle showcased its offense with two other goals from Daniel Agger and substitute Fabio Borini.

"As a manager you take great pride in watching your team play like that. Our concentration and focus as well as our quality were outstanding and you have to give credit to the players for that," Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said.

Rodgers also credited midfielder Philippe Coutinho's inspired play for the victory that solidified Liverpool's hold of seventh place with 54 points, just five points behind sixth-placed Everton.

"Coutinho is only going to get better. He is a very humble boy. He is learning very quickly and has quickly adapted to this country. I think he was born with a football at his feet. He has got a wonderful touch," Rodgers said.

The defeat, for its part, put Newcastle in danger of dropping into the bottom three. The team is just five points above the drop zone with three matches remaining.

"Luckily we have three games to go to put it right. We need four points to make sure we are safe. They were very good today. They had a great energy, but there is no excuse for our performance," Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew said.

Three minutes into the game, Agger took advantage of a Newcastle's static back line when he headed Stewart Downing's cross past the helpless Rob Elliot.

The visitors increased their lead in the 17th minute when Coutinho slid the ball into Sturridge, who set up Henderson's goal for a 2-0 advantage.

In other matches, Manchester City beat West Ham United, 2-1; Everton downed Fulham, 1-0; West Bromwich Albion blanked Southampton, 3-0; Stoke City edged Norwich City, 1-0; while Wigan Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur battled to a 2-2 draw.
