Carmelo Anthony fired 28 points as the New York Knicks stayed alive with a wire-to-wire 85-75 win over the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series at Madison Square Garden.

J.R. Smith and Chris Copeland scored 13 points each off the bench while Raymond Felton finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists as the Knicks trimmed the Pacers' series lead to 3-2.

Kenyon Martin added seven points while Amare Stoudemire finished with just two points but the Knicks' bench outscored its Pacers' counterpart, 35-10.

Paul George had 23 points, six rebounds and six assists, David West added 17 points and 10 rebounds while D.J. Augustin started in place of George Hill, scoring 12 points in 39 minutes for the Pacers.

Hill missed the game after suffering a concussion in Game 5 when he collided with Knicks center Tyson Chandler. He is averaging 16.0 points in 10 playoff games.

The Knicks made 32 of 78 attempts for 41 percent while the Pacers hit just 25 of 69 shots for 36.2 percent. The Knicks also played better defense with 12 steals and forced 19 turnovers, which they turned to 14 points.

Anthony scored five of the Knicks' first seven points in the opening period and never looked back from there.

In the second period, the Knicks padded their lead to 32-23 after Copeland buried a triple with 7:05 remaining but the Pacers trimmed the gap to three with a layup from Roy Hibbert.

However, Anthony scored six straight points and Smith added two foul shots to give the Knicks a 40-34 lead at the break.

The Knicks tasted their biggest lead at 63-52 after a layup and two foul shots by Martin with 2:48 remaining in the third.
