2008 Beijing Summer Olympics 100-Meter 200-Meter Record Holder, Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt

On the eve of the Aviva London Grand Prix, the world’s three fastest men, Jamaicans Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, and American Tyson Gay, discuss their Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic preparations and the London event, which they say is crucial to gauge their form against the competition as they finalise their preparations.

The Aviva London Grand Prix takes place on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th July. The Aviva London Grand Prix takes place at Crystal Palace three weeks before the Beijing Summer Olympics 100 meter final on August 16. British Athletics officials praised the event as the "strongest grand prix line-up ever seen in the UK."

The men's 100 meters is the most eagerly anticipated clash at the Grand Prix and serves as the prelude to the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

 

The men's 100 meter sprint is literally a showdown between American Tyson Gay and Jamaicans Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt.

American sprint superstar Tyson Gay:

"London will be very crucial for me - it is one of the biggest meets of the year right now ... If I run back-to-back rounds in London that will catapult me to the Olympics so I am really looking to run fast times in London."

Jamaican flying machine Asafa Powell added:

"The Aviva London Grand Prix is always one of the biggest meets on the circuit for me. I always look forward to it, it's always exciting, it's just a special meet."

Jamaican Usain Bolt after to setting the latest world record in the 100 meters is "Definitely feeling confident" and is "definitely out there" to do his best at the last major race before the Olympics.

Bolt acknowledges that Asafa Powell has a perfect start. However, that doesn't stop Usain Bolt from determining "what you did wrong and work on that."

Usain Bolt was looking forward to competing against both Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell. "Shame he’s not here," Bolt in regards to Tyson Gay. On both competitors Usain Bolt "knows their strengths and weaknesses." As for the Grand Prix, all three competing would have been "fun for the people" and "better for the sport." Bolt sincerely hopes that Tyson Gay is injury-free for the Olympics as both he and Asafa Powell look forward to a three-way competition for the 100 meters gold medal at the the Olympics.

"I’m excited to be going to the Olympics" Bolt feels confident that he can excel in both the 100 and 200 meters sprints. Rightfully so, as he has turned in "great times in both events."
