QB CHAD PENNINGTON, MIAMI DOLPHINS - AFC Offensive Player of the Week
Facing the Buffalo Bills in a key AFC East divisional game, Chad Pennington completed 22 of 30 passes (73.3
percent) for a season-high 314 yards with one touchdown versus zero interceptions and a 117.9 passer rating in
a 25-16 victory.
Chad Pennington’s 300-yard performance marked the sixth of his career and his fourth-highest total (339
passing yards on 12/17/06 with the New York Jets).
Pennington posted his fourth consecutive game with a touchdown when he connected with tight end ANTHONY
FASANO on a two-yard toss for the team’s first score of the game.
Chad's 117.9 passer rating marked the fourth time in the past five games that he recorded a 100-plus rating.
In his ninth season from Marshall, this is Chad Pennington’s fifth AFC Offensive Player of the Week Award and
first with the Miami Dolphins. He joins JAY FIEDLER, CLEO LEMON, DAN MARINO and SCOTT MITCHELL as the fifth
Dolphins quarterback to win the award. He previously won the award in 2006 (Week 1) with the Jets.
S CHRIS HOPE, TENNESSEE TITANS - AFC Defensive Player of the Week
In the Tennessee Titans first Monday Night Football home game since December 13, 2004, Chris Hope registered
a career-high two interceptions and added four tackles as the Titans defeated the Colts 31-21.
Hope's first interception came in the second quarter on a PEYTON MANNING pass that was tipped by defensive
back VINCENT FULLER.
Chris Hope, the veteran safety, recorded his second interception of the night in the fourth quarter on a
pass intended for tight end DALLAS CLARK. Hope’s 30-yard interception return led to a game-sealing score on
the Tennessee Titans following offensive play.
The Tennessee Titans defense leads the AFC with 12 interceptions.
In his seventh year from Florida State, this is Chris Hope’s first career Defensive Player of the Week Award.
Hope joins BLAINE BISHOP, BO EASON and MARCUS ROBERTSON as the fourth Titans/Oilers safety to win Defensive
Player of the Week honors.
WR-PR JACOBY JONES, HOUSTON TEXANS - AFC Special Teams Player of the Week
In the Houston Texans third consecutive win of the season, Jacony Jones registered a 73-yard punt
return touchdown following Cincinnati’s opening drive as the Houston Texans defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 35-6.
The second-year veteran posted his second punt return-touchdown this season (70-yard PR-TD against Miami on 10/12),
and Jacoby Jones is the only player in the NFL in 2008 with two punt return touchdowns of 70 or more yards.
His two punt return-touchdowns set a franchise single-season record, and he ranks second in the NFL for most
punt return-touchdowns through NFL 2008 Week 8 (REGGIE BUSH, 3).
In his second season from Lane College, this is Jones’ second career Special Teams Player of the Week Award. He previously won the award in Week 6 in 2008.
QB DREW BREES, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - NFC Offensive Player of the Week
The veteran quarterback threw for 339 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions on 30 of 41 passing
(73.2 percent) for a 121.9 passer rating as the Saints defeated the San Diego Chargers in front a crowd of
83,226 fans at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Drew Brees, who leads the NFL in attempts, completions and yards, completed passes to eight different
receivers, including touchdowns to wide receivers DEVERY HENDERSON (12 yards) and LANCE MOORE (30) and
tight end MARK CAMPBELL (one) in defeating his former club.
This marks Drew Brees' sixth game of the NFL 2008 season with more than 300 yards passing and his fifth
with a passer rating over 100.
In his eighth season from Purdue, this is Drew Brees’ eighth career Player of the Week Award and second this
season (NFL 2008 Week 6). Drew Brees’ six Player of the Week Awards as a Saint moves him past linebacker RICKEY
JACKSON for the most total awards in franchise history.
DE MATHIAS KIWANUKA, NEW YORK GIANTS - NFC Defensive Player of the Week
In the New York Giants 21-14 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers, defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka had five tackles, one forced
fumbled and three sacks, two of which came in the decisive fourth quarter.
With the Giants down 14-12 midway through the fourth quarter, Kiwanuka sacked the Steelers quarterback on
third down inside the Pittsburgh 20.
The snap of the ensuing punt went over the punter’s head for a safety, tying the game at 14.
In the Steelers’ last attempt for a game-tying drive after the Giants took a 21-14 lead, Kiwanuka sacked
the Pittsburgh quarterback again on third down and forced a fumble. The Steelers recovered, but their
fourth-down pass was intercepted by Giants rookie safety KENNY PHILLIPS to seal the win.
The Giants lead the NFL with 26 sacks and have the top ranked defense in the NFC, allowing just
271.4 yards per game.
In his third year from Boston College, this is Mathias Kiwanuka’s first career Player of the Week Award.
Kiwanuka is the fourth defensive end in franchise history to be named Defensive Player of the Week and the
first since OSI UMENYIORA (Week 7, 2007).
WR-PR SANTANA MOSS, WASHINGTON REDSKINS - NFC Special Teams Player of the Week
With the Washington Redskins leading the Detroit Lions 16-10 in the fourth quarter, Santana Moss returned
just his second punt of the season for an 80-yard touchdown in the Redskins’ 25-17 victory over the Lions.
The punt-return touchdown marked the third of Moss’ career (two in 2002 with the New York Jets) and the
first for a Redskins player since ANTWAAN RANDLE EL in 2006 (Week 7 vs. Indianapolis).
Moss’ punt-return touchdown came on the heels of his 50-yard receiving touchdown from quarterback JASON
CAMPBELL.
Moss is the first player since DEVIN HESTER (Week 6, 2007) to record an 80-yard punt return touchdown and
a 50-yard touchdown reception in the same game.
In his eighth season from Miami, this is Santana Moss’ fifth career Player of the Week Award (three for
offense, two for special teams). He is the eighth Redskins player to be honored for special teams and the
first since SHAUN SUISHAM (Week 9, 2007).
