Check Out These Smart Sensors for Your Home

If you want to keep track of your home’s energy consumption, lights, appliances, security and other devices, there are a range of sensors that can help you keep better tabs.

Here are the sensors I checked out for my home, and that you’ll most likely love for yours, too:

Samsung's SmartThings

You can connect all the sensors in your home with this system. It includes: the app, the hub ($99.99) and as many sensors ($39.99 each) or connected devices you wish to integrate. You can monitor and remotely adjust your thermostat, lights, appliances or locks.

And you can get alerts when someone is entering or leaving your house, and create settings based on your preferences, such as turning on the lights when you enter.

Nest

Nest has built a comprehensive line of smart sensors and devices to connect and adjust your home for optimizing comfort, convenience and energy consumption.

Beyond the thermostat ($249), it offers integrated smoke alarms ($99), security cameras ($199) and soon, they are going to release door locks. Nest products, like the newest version of the thermostat, learn from your behavior and adjust automatically. Also, some localities offer rebates via the Nest website.

littleBits

The Smart Home Kit from littleBits is $249, and it lets you create and install smart sensors that are customized for your home. For example, you can create an automatic bird feeder, remotely close the garage door, shut curtains, monitor water leaks under the sink and find out when the dog is barking. All sensors are connected through the littleBits app.
