There are more gizmos and gadgets than people in the United States, according to the latest report of industry group CTIA.
The report said there are 327.6 million active phones, computer tablets and laptops on cellular networks, while the country's headcount, which include the mainland, Puerto Rico, Guan and the Virgin Islands, was 315.5 million.
Among the reasons behind devices outnumbering Americans is that they usually own more than one device. In some instances they have one cellular phone for personal use and another for business use, plus a PC for work.
According to CTIA President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Largent, the trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
"Americans love wireless and continue to rely on the most cutting-edge and innovative devices and services in the world. Clearly, we're using wireless more every day, and the consensus of experts is that demand will continue to skyrocket by more than 50 times within the next five years," Largent said.
Another reason behind why there are more devices than people in the U.S. is the expansion of market base outside the traditional buyers made up of young and middle-aged people. Children have started to begin using mobile phones at a younger age, while older people have began to adapt to discover and use smartphones and tablets computers.
Notwithstanding the economic slowdown, sale of high-tech devices continue to rise in the U.S. and even boosted by death of Apple founder Steve Jobs last week. Most of the devices have also become easier on the pocket even among workers whose wages are not going up but even eaten up by high prices of other goods and services.
