Preorders for Apple Inc.'s iPhone 4S surpassed one million in its first day, exceeding the company's previous records and paved the wave for another successful product launch. In fact, the iPhone 4S may possibly become Apple's fastest selling device ever.

Online and telephone preorders for the iPhone 4S began Friday.

The presale report represented a 67 percent increase over the first day orders for the original iPhone 4 in 2010. It also marked the first major product launch under reining Apple CEO Tim Cook, and the first to follow the death of Apple's visionary leader Steve Jobs.

The iPhone 4S will be available from three U.S. carriers.

Following Friday's launch, shares up Apple rose 5.1% or $19.01 a share Monday. Following the presale report Apple was higher by $8.78 at $397.68 in early afternoon trading on Tuesday.
