Manchester City avoided a letdown and knocked off Wolves, 3-1, at Etihad Stadium in an English Premier League matchup.

Coming off a 6-1 destruction of rival Manchester United, City maintained its five-point advantage at the top of the table with the win.

Edin Dzeko put City ahead 1-0 and Aleksandar Kolarov converted on a rebound in the 67th minute to double the lead.

Wolves cut the lead to 2-1 when Stephen Hunt converted ffrom the penalty spot with 15 minutes remaining but substitute Adam Johnson wrapped up the victory for the hosts in stoppage time.

Manchester United rebounded from its stunning loss to City with a 1-0 victory at Everton.

Javier Hernandez scored in the first half for United, which made five changes to the lineup that was thrashed by City.

Robin van Persie's hat-trick helped Arsenal to a 5-3 victory at Chelsea on Saturday as the Gunners won for the eighth time in their last nine games.

American Clint Dempsey scored late in the first half to help lift Fulham to a 2-0 victory over Wigan at DW Stadium.

Moussa Dembele scored Fulham's second goal in the 87th minute.

Dempsey put Fulham ahead in the 41st minute as he took a low cross from Bobby Zamora and bounced a low shot past Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi.

Dempsey has three goals while starting in all 10 games this season for Fulham.
