The New York Rangers scored three second period goals and held off a late Ottawa Senators charge to win game six of the Eastern Conference playoffs, 3-2.

The Blueshirts forced a game seven to be played at Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers scored three goals in the second period to take over the match.

Derek Stepan scored on a power play midway through the period and Brad Richards zipped another shot past Chris Anderson on another extra-man opportunity.

The eventual game-winner came on a blast from Chris Kreider with 41 seconds remaining in the period.

Chris Neil opened the scoring early on for the Senators, beating a screened Henrik Lundqvist with a shot.

Jason Spezza was credited with the Senators second goal, which came with 39 ticks left. It appeared to go in via a distinct kicking motion, but the refs ruled it a tally, infuriating Lundqvist who thought he was interfered with.

The Senators couldn't net the equalizer, however, and will have to play better in the Big Apple to score an upset.

The Rangers will have two days to lick their wounds, as Ryan Callahan and Richards were both battered in the grueling contest.
