Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres was handed a 25-game suspension by the NHL for a hit to the head of Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa during game three of the Western Conference quarterfinal series.

League disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan came down on hard on Torres for being a repeat offender, getting suspended each of the last two seasons, a total of six games, for illegal hits.

This was a scary scene, as Hossa was immobilized before being stretchered off the ice and taken to a hospital. He was later released but has already been ruled out for game five.

The ruling was made Saturday morning, a day after Torres met with NHL officials in New York to discuss the incident.
