The New York Rangers stole game five of their Eastern Conference playoff series vs. the Washington Capitals, as Marc Staal's drive careened off a defender and went into the netting, setting off a wild celebration for the Blueshirts, who won 3-2 in overtime.

New York took a 3-2 series lead thanks in large part to Brad Richards poke home of a rebound in the closing seconds of regulation.

Ryan Callahan took several whacks at the rebound first, but couldn't get the puck behind Caps stellar goalie Braden Holtby (35 saves).

All Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist (16 saves) could do was watch from the bench as he was pulled for the extra attacker with about 90 seconds left.

The Caps nearly took a 3-2 series lead back to D.C. as they built a 2-1 advantage on goals by Brooks Laich and John Carlson, the latter on the power play early in the second period.

It stood up until Richards' heroics with just under seven seconds remaining.

Anton Stralman scored midway through the opening period for the Blueshirts.
