Los Angeles' basketball teams both made big moves Thursday with the Lakers dealing for superstar guard Chris Paul as part of a three-way trade in which they dealt away Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol.
Paul is an emerging superstar, averaging 37.1 minutes, 18.7 points and 9.9 assists a game, and was said to be pining to play in L.A. or N.Y.
Gasol was the second biggest piece of the deal, as he averages 18.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest.
The deal was put on hold by NBA commissioner David Stern, however, after several owners balked at letting the league-owned team trade a star to an already star-studded franchise.
The Clippers were also busy, inking Caron Butler to a three-year, $24 million deal.
Butler averaged 15 points and 4.1 rebounds per tilt in 2011-12, though his numbers were below his career stats.
