The Phoenix Suns re-signed swingman Grant Hill to a one-year, $6.5 million contract, bringing one of the most popular and valuable players back for another season.

Hill's return to Phoenix was the Suns' top priority due to his leadership and defensive presence. The 39-year-old is also close with Suns point guard Steve Nash, who is in the final year of his contract.

"Grant Hill represents everything we want the Phoenix Suns to stand for, both on and off the court," said President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby. "Grant had other attractive offers, so we are delighted that he has chosen to remain a Sun."

The Suns also signed guards Sebastian Telfair and Shannon Brown to one-year deals and waived forward Vince Carter. By waiving Carter the Suns will only have to pay $4 million of the $18 million he was due for the 2011-12 season.

Telfair has played for five teams over seven NBA seasons. The 26-year-old will give the Suns a backup to Nash.

Brown came off the bench for the Lakers last season and declined a $2.4 million option to stay in Los Angeles.
