Sixers Amnesty Elton Brand

The Philadelphia 76ers decided to use the amnesty clause on former All-Star Elton Brand, clearing $18 million off their books.
Brand, two-time All-Star, will receive full $18 million left in the final year of his contract after the 76ers decided to release the veteran forward with the new CBA's amnesty clause.
Averaging 11.0 points, 7.2 boards, and 1.6 blocks in his 13th season, the 33-year-old Brand can be claimed off waivers. If not claimed, Brand becomes a free agent.
The Dallas Mavericks, the Miami Heat, and the Los Angeles Clippers are rumored to be the teams interested in Brand, who can still provide post scoring and rebounding, especially to a contender.
The 76ers have been infusing youth into their roster, signing Spence Hawes to a new deal and inking shooting guard Nick Young to a one-year, $6 million contract.

Sixers minority owners to become DC United part owners
Philadelphia 76ers minority owners Erick Thohir and Jason Levien have added another team to their portfolio, agreeing to become part owners of DC United in Major League Soccer.
According to sources, Thohir and Levien are ironing out a deal that will make them partners with longtime DC United owner Will Chang, who also serves on the board of Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants.
The deal is pending MLS approval, another source added.
Chief executive officer Kevin Payne will continue to run day-to-day operations for DC United, winner of the MLS Cup a record four times in 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004.
Thohir is an Indonesian media magnate and the first Asian owner in NBA history while Levien previously worked as an NBA player agent before a stint in the Sacramento Kings' front office that preceded his involvement with the Sixers
The two will make the construction of a new soccer-specific stadium for DC United their top priority.
Currently sitting atop the Eastern Conference, DC United has played at RFK Stadium since the league's inception in 1996 and has long craved a more suitably sized home ground.
