Theo Epstein is set to join the Chicago Cubs after it was reported that the former Red Sox general manager has agreed to a five-year deal worth more than $15 million.

According to a report by WEEI radio in Boston Wednesday, the multi-year pact with Epstein, 37, who served as Red Sox GM for nine seasons, will be finalized by the end of this week.

The same report, citing sources, indicated it will be finalized after negotiations for compensation with the Red Sox are concluded. Epstein still has one year remaining on his current deal with the Red Sox.

Epstein, who in 2002 became the youngest general manager in major league history when he took over the Red Sox at age 28, is regarded for being instrumental in lifting the curse in Beantown.

During his first tenure as Red Sox GM, Epstein was credited for assembling the 2004 squad that shattered an 86-year championship drought in Boston, consequently breaking the so-called "Curse of the Bambino".

Under Epstein's watch, the Red Sox tacked on another Word Series title in 2007.

After a dispute with CEO Larry Lucchino in 2005, Epstein left the club, but was later brought back after three months. Epstein took on the addition role of executive vice president for the BoSox in 2006.

It is expected that Chicago has big plans for Epstein, but has not decided to reveal anything at the moment, including Epstein's title with the team.
