St. Louis, MO

Josh Hamilton and Michael Young collected key sacrifice flies in the ninth inning, as the Texas Rangers upended the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in game two of the World Series Thursday.

Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus scored the runs after ripping consecutive singles as Texas looked to remove the hero label from Allen Craig, who nearly played the part a second straight night.

Craig could have had the game-winning hit again, as he drove in David Freese with an RBI single in the seventh.

Craig also had the key hit in game one as St. Louis took a short-lived advantage in the series.

Jaime Garcia was terrific in his start for the Cards, allowing just three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings.

Unlike the opener when St. Louis' bullpen was terrific, Jason Motte let St. Louis down by allowing both runs and not recording an out in an ineffective appearance.

Colby Lewis allowed just a run over 6 1-3 frames for the Rangers, and three relievers followed with scoreless work, including closer Neftali Perez who gave up just a walk in the ninth.

Mike Adams got the win for his scoreless eighth frame while Perez notched the save.

Motte took the loss for the Cards.
