Chris Coyer threw a TD pass and ran in another score in his first career start, as the Temple Owls got back on track with a 24-21 decision over the Miami-Ohio Redhawks Wednesday night, in a Mid-American Conference clash at Lincoln Financial Field.
It snapped a two-game skid for the Owls (6-4, 4-3 Mid-American), coming off back-to-back losses to Bowling Green and Ohio.
Coyer, who had a solid performance in the setback to Ohio, completed 10-of-19 passes for 92 yards and added 97 yards on the ground for the Owls.
Matt Brown, filling in for injured star running back Bernard Pierce, ran for 123 yards on 24 carries for the victors.
Redhawks' Nick Harwell had a career night in the loss, setting school marks for catches (15) and receiving yards (229) while scoring twice.
Zac Dysert threw for 364 yards and three scores, but was intercepted twice.
Miami-Ohio (4-6, 3-3), trying to ride the momentum of a 35-5 win over Akron, trailed 17-7 at halftime.
The Redhawks came within 17-14 in the third following Dysert's connection to Chris Givens that resulted in a 25-yard score.
Brown then provided some breathing room for the Owls with a two-yard TD run early in the fourth period, making it 24-14 favor of Temple.
