Junior running back John White IV covered 115 yards on 26 carries and scored the game-winning 8-yard rushing TD in overtime as the Utah Utes edged Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 30-27, in Saturday's Sun Bowl matchup.
Utes quarterback Jon Hays threw 15-for-31 for 193 yards with three touchdowns, two coming in the last 6:50 minutes of the fourth quarter to erase a 14-point deficit and force an overtime period.
Kicker Justin Moore gave the Yellow Jackets a three-point edge, 27-24 in overtime but their defense failed to stop the Utes' final drive.
Junior quarterback Tevin Washington threw 11-for-15 for 137 yards with one touchdown, while senior running back Preston Lyons covered 138 yards on 18 attempts in a losing effort.
Georgia Tech (8-5, 5-3 ACC) has yet to win a Bowl game since beating Syracuse in the 2004 Champs Sports Bowl.
Utah (8-5, 4-5 Pac-12) is 7-1 in Bowl games under head coach Kyle Whittingham.
