Sophomore quarterback Connor Shaw completed 20-of-29 passes for 155 yards and hooked up with wideout Alshon Jeffery for the winning touchdown, powering the South Carolina Gamecocks past the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 14-12 Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium.

Shaw hit a leaping Jeffery on the end zone with 3:50 remaining to give the Gamecocks their first back-to-back wins since falling toAuburn, 16-13 on Oct. 1.

Shaw, who already covered 340 yards with four scores, struggled to break the Bulldogs defense early on but still led his team on a game-winning drive.

Star running back Marcus Lattimore once again delivered a touchdown for the Gamecocks but had to leave early with an apparent sprained knee. He finished the game with 17 carries for 39 yards.

Bulldogs quarterback Tyler Russell gave his team the lead first after hooking up with wideout Chris Smith in the 1:09 mark of the first period.

After Lattimore's touchdown, the Bulldogs reclaimed the lead on 22-yard field goal by kicker Derek DePasquale with 9:50 left.

However, Shaw and Jeffrey orchestrated the winning play perfectly to keep the Bulldogs winless in SEC play this season.

With the win, the 15th ranked Gamecocks improved their season record to 6-1 (4-1 SEC). Mississippi State absorbed its second loss in three games, dropping to 3-4 (0-4 SEC).
