Miami, FL

Perry Jones continues to shine for the Cavaliers backfield, throwing a 37-yard TD and hauling in a 78-yard score as Virginia notched a 28-21 decision over the Miami Hurricanes at Sun Life Stadium.

Jones, who entered Thursday's tilt as the leader of the Cavaliers backfield with 576 rushing yards, also had 67 yards on the ground in the victory, the third in the last four for Virginia (5-3, 2-2 ACC).

It also marked the first triumph on the road in ACC play for Virginia after seven straight road setbacks.

Kevin Parks added 83 yards rushing on 15 carries for the Cavaliers, who refused to wilt under pressure and held on after taking control with two minutes left in the contest.

The 'Canes tried to get back into the game with 7:13 to play.

LaRoy Reynolds then stopped Miami's Mike Jones in the backfield on fourth-and-2 at the 'Canes 15 with 2:10 remaining, and Virginia held on the rest of the way.

With Virginia opting not to use the two-player system under center, quarterback Michael Rocco went the whole way and completed 11-of-20 passes for 226 yards and two TD.

Tommy Streeter had seven grabs for a career-high 176 yards and two scores for the Hurricanes (4-4, 2-3), who were hoping to extend their two-game streak.

Jacory Harris, on the other hand, left with nine seconds left in the contest with an apparent right-arm injury. The Miami signal-caller had 311 yards and three TDs on 21-of-30 passing in the loss.
