After weeks of speculation, the Pac-12 Conference has decided that 12 teams is enough at the present time.

The conference's presidents and chancellors were on a conference call Tuesday night and reaffirmed the decision to stay at 12 members.

On Tuesday night, Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott announced that his conference has decided not to seek further expansion at this point in time.

"After careful review we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions, student-athletes and fans to remain a 12-team conference," Scott said in a statement as reported by Tulsa World. "While we have great respect for all of the institutions that have contacted us, and certain expansion proposals were financially attractive, we have a strong conference structure and culture of equality that we are committed to preserve."

"With new landmark TV agreements and plans to launch our innovative television networks, we are going to focus solely on these great assets, our strong heritage and the bright future in front of us," the Pac-12 commissioner added.

There had been speculation that the Pac-12 was seeking to become a 16-team conference.

With the latest decision by the conference, the much-talked about western migration of the four schools thought to be among the schools considered, namely: Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, will have to shelved, at least for now.

The Pac-12 is in its first year as a 12-team league following the addition of Colorado and Utah last year.
