Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has three games left in his tenure with the Rebels.

The university announced that Nutt will resign at the end of the season.

Ole Miss athletic director Pete Boone said Nutt will coach the Rebels' last three games this year. Boone also announced that he will step down within the next year.

Dating to last season, Ole Miss (2-7, 0-6 SEC) has lost 12 straight Southeastern Conference games and will have a second straight losing season under Nutt.

Things started off well for Nutt in Oxford as he left Arkansas to coach the Rebels and won nine games in each of his first two seasons, including back-to-back Cotton Bowl victories.

Things started to go south last season starting with a season opening loss to FCS level Jacksonville State and Nutt was never able to get Ole Miss back on track.

Nutt, who is earning approximately $2.7 million this season, has a $6 million buyout clause in his contract, Boone said.
