Columbus, OH

Ohio State kept up its in-state dominance Saturday but had to fight all the way to the wire to do it.

The No. 15 Buckeyes needed a special teams touchdown and a fourth quarter comeback to hold on for a 27-22 victory over Toledo.

The Buckeyes are now 43-0-1 against other teams from Ohio since a 7-6 loss to Oberlin in 1921. The preseason pick to win the Mid-American Conference, Toledo was close to ending that streak.

Adonis Thomas ran for a four-yard touchdown to give the Rockets (1-1) a 22-21 lead with 13:25 to play. The Buckeyes (2-0) regained the lead with 3:20 remaining when Carlos Hyde ran in from two yards out for his second touchdown of the day.

Toledo had a chance to pull off the upset and had a first-and-10 at the Ohio State 21 with 1:10 left. The Rockets got down to the 16 but a pass on 4th-and-five fell incomplete and allowed the Buckeyes to escape.

Toledo, which outgained Ohio State 345-302, led 15-7 after the first quarter before Ohio State responded.

Hyde scored his first touchdown of the game on a 36-yard run about midway through the second quarter and Chris Fields returned a punt 69 yards for Ohio State just before the half to put the Buckeyes up 21-15.
