By John Nestor
Pittsburgh, PA
Tommy Rees and the Notre Dame defense came through when it mattered to lead the Fighting Irish to a 15-12 victory over Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon.
Rees completed all eight passes he threw on the game-winning scoring drive and he capped the 85-yard march with a six-yard scoring strike to tight end Tyler Eifert.
The duo connected again on the two-point conversion to gove the Irish (2-2) a three-point lead with 6:48 to play.
The Panthers (2-2) moved the ball to the Notre Dame 40-yard line on its final possession but quarterback Tino Sunseri was sacked twice and then had his fourth-down pass broken up.
Notre Dame then ran out the clock for its second straignt win.
The Irish had a 7-6 lead at the half thanks to a 79-yard TD run by Jonas Gray.
Hubie Graham caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Sunseri to put Pittsburgh on top 12-7 in the third quarter.
Ray Graham had a strong game for the Panthers with 89 yards rushing and eight receptions for 43 yards.
