Baton Rogue, LA
After being recognized as the nation's top team, LSU is expected to do its best not only to retain the No. 1 ranking in college football but also continue with its quest for the national championship.
The Tigers (4-0, 1-0 SEC) wrested the top spot from previously top-ranked Oklahoma Sunday after defeating then No. 16 West Virginia 47-21 the night before.
It marked the third decisive win over a ranked opponent this season for the Tigers, who will next collide with Kentucky Saturday.
The Wildcats (2-2, 0-1), held to a combined 169 rushing yards while losing their last two contests, will seek to correct their ways against the tight LSU defense that forced four turnovers last week.
In the season, the Tigers have forced opponents to commit a total of 11 turnovers.
The No. 2 Sooners are expected to bounce back as they try to reclaim the top spot with a strong showing Saturday night, when they face Ball State in their non-conference finale in Norman, OK.
In last Saturday's Big 12 opener against Missouri, the Sooners regrouped after falling to a 14-3 hole, scoring 28 straight points to claim a 38-28 victory.
Last Saturday's matchup marked the first time Oklahoma trailed in 21 home games.
Meanwhile, observers have noted that one of the biggest games of the week will feature the top two defenses - -No. 3 Alabama squaring off with No. 12 Florida at The Swamp.
Fourth-ranked Boise State and No. 6 Stanford are also slated to see action Saturday.
Apart from continuing their bid this season, the No. 4 Broncos will also try to avenge last season's crucial loss to the WolfPack that cost them the elusive berth at the BCS championship game.
The sixth-ranked Cardinal are expected to mix it up without star linebacker Shayne Skov when they host UCLA. Skov sustained a season-ending knee injury during Stanford's Sept. 17 victory at Arizona.
At Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, WI, two 4-0 teams will clash with No. 7 Wisconsin facing the eighth-ranked Nebraska.
Saturday will also see a rematch of last season's SEC championship with 10th-ranked South Carolina going up against Auburn in Columbia.
