Second ranked LSU needed nothing more than a strong running game and a stingy defense to dispatch of another overmatched foe.

The Tigers rolled up almost 200 yards rushing and the defense did not allow a score until the game was well in hand as LSU posted a 35-7 victory over Kentucky in a Southeastern Conference matchup Saturday.

The game marked the return of quarterback Jordan Jefferson, who was reinstated this week after a grand jury reduced charges he faces in connection with an Aug. 19 bar fight to a misdemeanor.

Jarrett Lee started at quarterback for LSU (5-0, 2-0 SEC) but Jefferson did play and scored a rushing touchdown.

Alfred Blue and Terrence Magee also rushed for scores for the Tigers, who host Florida in a key conference clash next week.

Jefferson scored on a quarterback sneak on 4th-and-goal from the 1-yard line midway through the first quarter and Lee added a 51-yard touchdown pass to Odell Beckham in the second quarter.

Thaty was more than enough offense for the LSU defense, which held the Wildcats (2-3, 0-2) to just over 150 total yards.

The LSU defense also scored as cornerback Tyrann Mathieu sacked Kentucky quarterback Maxwell Smith, forcing a fumble that Mathieu recovered and then returned 23 yards for a touchdown to make it 28-0.
