Freshman Gary Nova threw two touchdown passes to lead Rutgers to a 21-20 victory over Navy in a non-conference matchup Saturday.
Jawan Jamison added 101 yards rushing and a touchdown on 22 carries for the Scarlet Knights (5-1), who have won four straight and are off to their best start since 2006.
Navy led 14-7 at the half, thanks in part to the defense as Chris Ferguson intercepted Nova and returned the pass for a touchdown from 16-yards out.
A New Jersey native, Nova rebounded and hit Quron Pratt for a 10-yard touchdown late in the third quarter to pull Rutgers within 17-14.
Nova gave Rutgers a 21-17 lead with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tim Wright and the Scarlet Knights held on from there.
Navy (2-4) kicked a field goal that made it 21-20 with 8:42 left. The Midshipmen were in business again as linebacker Caleb King intercepted Nova's pass at the Rutgers' 18-yard line.
The Rutgers defense held and then blocked a 34-yard field goal attempt by Navy.
