Boston College's athletic director Gene DeFilippo went after a couple of the big boys but ended up feeling bad about it.

DeFilippo apologized for comments that appeared in The Boston Globe in which he went after ESPN and the University of Connecticut.

DeFilippo told The Globe that ESPN influenced the move of Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

He also bragged about blocking Connecticut's potential move to the ACC saying, "We didn't want them in."

In a statement, DeFilippo apologized for any "negative effects" his comments had and said he "spoke inappropriately and erroneously regarding ESPN's role in conference expansion."

DeFilippo did acknowledge "ill feelings" toward UConn in the wake of the lawsuit Connecticut filed after B.C.'s departure from the Big East in 2003.

DeFilippo said it was "inappropriate to express personal feelings that might have been construed as the position of Boston College or the Atlantic Coast Conference."
