Auburn, AL
A.J. McCarron threw three touchdown passes and Trent Richardson ran for 203 yards to lead No. 2 Alabama to a 42-14 victory over Auburn in the Iron Bowl Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson Tide (11-1, 7-1 SEC) also got a strong showing from its defense as they likely locked up a spot in the BCS Championship Game.
McCarron threw all three of his TD passes in the first half as Alabama opened up a 24-7 lead at the break.
Auburn overcame a 24-7 halftime deficit in the Iron Bowl last season en route to a national championship, but that team had Cam Newton at quarterback and playmakers all over the field.
This version of the Tigers was not match for the Crimson Tide although Auburn did cut the lead to 24-14 by running back the second half kickoff for a touchdown.
But the Alabama defense never let Auburn (7-5, 4-4 SEC) get anything going, forcing a punt, two turnovers on downs, a fumble and an interception on the Tigers' five second-half possessions.
