Junior forward Ryan Kelly chipped in 17 points off the bench and the Duke Blue Devils cruised to a 96-55 victory over the Presbyterian Blue Hose Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski's 902nd win tied Bobby Knight for the most wins in Division I men's basketball history.
Kelly shot 5-for-8 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line to spearhead Duke's balanced attack.
Duke, which survived Belmont 77-76 in Friday's season-opener, got significant contributions this time from Miles.
Plumlee (13 points and 11 boards), Mason Plumlee (13 points, 8 boards), Seth Curry (10 points, 4 boards), and freshman hot shot Austin Rivers (15 points and 6 assists).
Senior center Al'Lonzo Coleman paced the Blue Hose with 11 points and 5 boards, while senior guard Pierre Miller tallied 10 points and 3 boards.
The Blue Devils raced to a 9-point lead through the first six minutes, but the Blue Hose responded with three unanswered baskets to get back within two points, 19-17.
But the ACC powerhouse proved to be a much better offensive team as Kelly, Curry, and Rivers began to sink their jumpers.
After building a 53-30 lead at the break, the Blue Devils sustained their offensive groove into the second half and never looked back.
With the win, Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski equalized Bobby Knight's record of 902 career wins in Division I basketball.
At 2-0, Duke will have their first acid test against the Michigan State Spartans, who bowed out to the top-ranked North Carolina Tarheels, 67-55, in Friday night's Carrier Classic.
Presbyterian (1-1) will try to bounce back from their loss Monday against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.
