Provo, UT
BYU Cougars center Brandon Davies said he's happy to carry on with his college basketball career after being suspended last season for violating the school's honor code, the junior hoops star reported Wednesday.
Davies finally spoke up since becoming the man at the center of controversy after the BYU basketball team dismissed him for having pre-marital sex while studying in an institution operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Davies, who averaged 11.1 points and 6.2 boards last season, said he's just glad to rejoin the team after the tough experience.
"I am just happy to be back. It doesn't matter what I had to go through to get here," Davies told reporters Wednesday. "I am just glad to be here, back with my teammates and back here where I am supported and loved by so many. Just to be back here and be able to be part of this team again is a blessing to me."
The junior center added he changed a lot during his suspension, believing BYU officials 'treated him more than fair' over the way the situation handled.
"Those steps are over and done with. I am back. As far as I am concerned, I did it the right way. Those things don't need to be brought up," Davies told Salt Lake City.
The 6-foot-9, 235-pound Davies will lead a team that lost the services of high-scoring guard Jimmer Fredettte, who led the program to a Sweet 16 stint last season.
