One way or another it appears that David Ortiz is headed back to the Boston Red Sox.

With a two-year deal worth $18 million on the table, Ortiz has reportedly decided to go another route and take the Red Sox up on their arbitration offer. Ortiz earned $12.5 million in 2011 and will likely command somewhere around $15 million in arbitration.

Wednesday at midnight is the deadline for players to accept arbitration and Boston general manager Ben Cherington left open the possibility the sides could meet again before the deadline.

While the Boston Globe is reporting that Ortiz has not yet accepted arbitration from the Red Sox, ESPN Deportes is reporting the slugger has indeed taken the team up on the offer. The paper reports that neither Red Sox team officials nor the MLB Players Association have been told by Ortiz that he will accept arbitration.

Ortiz is said to prefer to sign a two-year deal worth $25 million, however, it is unclear if the Red Sox would go that high for the 36-year-old All-Star.

Last season Ortiz hit .309 with 29 home runs and 96 RBI in 146 games for Boston.
