New York, NY
Tampa Bay Rays Joe Maddon and Arizona Diamondbacks Gibson captured enough vote from the voting panel to become the 2011 American League and National League Manager of the Year, respectively.
MLB announced the winners for the Manager of the Year in both American League and National League.
Maddon, who gained 26 of a possible 28 first-place votes for 133 points, nabbed his second AL Manager of the Year award after steering the Jays to an improbable postseason berth in September.
Maddon defeated Jim Leyland (54 points) of the Detroit Tigers, Ron Washington (31 points) of the ALCS champ Texas Rangers, Manny Acta (31 points) of the Cleveland Indians, Joe Girardi (14 points) of the New York Yankees and Mike Scioscia (4 points) of the Los Angeles Angels.
Gibson, who captured 28 of a possible 32 votes for 152 points, took home the NL Manager of the Year award after guiding the D-Backs to a 92-win season in his first full-year as an MLB skipper.
Gibson nipped Ron Roenicke (92 points) of the Milwaukee Brewers, Tony La Russa (24 points) of the World Series champ St. Louis Cardinals, and Charlie Manuel (10 points) of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Baseball Writers' Association of America conducted the voting for the Manager of the Year for both the American League and National League before the postseason.
