Los Angeles, CA
Albert Pujols made a bit of a sacrifice in the short-term so the Los Angeles Angels could be even better next season.
According to a report, Pujols took less upfront money when signing with the Angels to help the team sign free-agent left-hander C.J. Wilson.
ESPN.com reported that according to sources, the three-time MVP will earn $12 million next season and $16 million in 2013.
Pujols signed a 10-year, $250 million deal earlier this month and sources said his salary will increase up past $30 million annually by the end of the deal.
By structuring his deal this way, Pujols allowed Wilson to sign a five-year, $77.5 million contract to join the Angels.
Wilson went 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA last season with the Texas Rangers and helped them return to the world Series.
